The Brazil population grows every year as more people are born in and migrate to this incredible country. Brazil is the largest country in South America and is the world's fifth most populated country in the world, with a population of just over 190 million people.

Most Populated - Sao Paulo is the richest and most populated of all the states in Brazil, with 39.9 million residents. The majority of the Brazilian population in this state is in the city of Sao Paulo, which has over 10.6 million residents.

Huge Numbers of People - Although Brazil has a high number of residents, it is in fact, and one of the least densely populated countries in the world. This is believed due to the fact that a huge majority of the population lives in a relatively small number of cities. Therefore, there are massive areas that are uninhabited. Over 83% of Brazilians live in urban areas, one of the highest rates of urbanization among the world's nations.

Least Populated - Roraima is situated in the northeastern part of Brazil in the Amazon region and has the smallest population in the country. The population of this state is only 400,000 and has the fewest municipalities with only 15. Many of the Brazilians that live in this area do so in protected nature reserves. These legally recognized reserves total over 45% of the land in the state.

Population Increase - Statistics show that between 1940 and 1970, the Brazilian population grew as the mortality rates declined. Although birth rates did not increase, the population continued to increase significantly until 1970. The average life expectancy rose steadily from 44 to 54 and then to 76 in 2007. These figures increased the overall Brazil population and every 10 years when the census is conducted the population increases more.

Population Distribution - Although the population is large, due to the uneven distribution of the people it does not feel overcrowded. A huge majority of the Brazilians live very close to the coast, leaving the interior of the country vast and spacious. There have been some changes in later years, and more people have moved further inland. However, more people have entered the cities and ensured that the densely populated areas remain full.

Economy and Poverty - The economy in Brazil has improved a great deal over the last few years and things have begun to be financially better for the country. However, there is still a vast amount of the Brazil population who live in poverty. There are definite social class boundaries throughout the country. The wealthy Brazilians remain in their areas, whereas the middle class people feel they can mingle with everyone.
